Whitewater Brushes

The Whitewater brush library (for Corel Painter 8 and above) is a collection of 6 variants which have been developed to simulate dual purpose watercolor functionality (paint applicator and blotter controlled by stylus pressure).

The basic concept is that one works on a white canvas background, and by setting either the Main or Additional color to white in the Colors palette, and the Color Expression set to Pressure, it is possible to manipulate (by varying stylus pressure) the applied stroke quickly between white (canvas color) and any other selected color without the need to additionally select white or an eraser. Variants therefore essentially act as a normal ‘watercolor’ variant, combined with a blotter/eraser.

Variants prefixed ‘DWC’ use the Digital Wet method (Digital Watercolor), and interact with the currently selected paper grain. The ‘Whitewater’ variants are utilise the Cover method. A paper texture can be added after painting via. Effects menu> Surface Control> Apply Surface Texture (Using Paper). In the above demo image, I used the Italian Watercolor Paper.

Variants with P-White in their name progressively go to white as stylus pressure increases (Main color set to white in the Colors palette).

Variants with P-Colour (Col) in their name progressively go to the selected color as stylus pressure increases (Additional color set to white in the Colors palette).

Important: All variants have their original colors saved with the variant, and when initially adjusting the color it may be necessary to first click on the colored (not white) swatch square in the Colors palette in order to ensure it is selected so that the respective Main/Additional color remains white. This will make more sense when you use the variants.
